Experience

Having taken an Honours Degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, John studied Economics at the London School of Economics. His early career was in the plastics industry working for multi-nationals from London, Brussels and New York and then he led an investor group pioneering the first computer graphics service in the UK.

Since founding Pax, John has worked internationally in many technology sectors, finding complementary projects for medium sized and large companies, bringing discoveries and inventions to companies able to exploit them, and advising on all aspects of technology licensing. For many years he was Chairman of the Institute of International Licensing Practitioners and was also a member of the Executive Council of the Licensing Executive Society.

He has negotiated, advised or mediated on licensing matters concerning a wide range of technologies including adhesives, automotive electricals and electronics, bearings, bio-sensors, cancer drugs, chemicals, coke oven repairs, compactors, diapers, electronic ticketing, fermentation products, food sterilization, fence posts, flue gas desulphurization, glucose monitoring devices for diabetics, household laundry products, liquid crystals, mass transit in cities, medical electronics, metal finishing, pens, motor-cycle helmets, packaging, paper products, pharmaceuticals, pigmentation systems, plastic netting, polymers, power tools, sewage processing, sterilization monitors, safety switches, sweeteners, tungsten carbide, vacuum cleaners, and waste compactors.

He has provided expert evidence in some eighteen patent litigation cases in the UK and North America.
